Abdulmumin Abolade Oshodi: Building Smarter Trade Corridors for African Healthcare

—

The commercial lawyer and technology entrepreneur is using artificial intelligence, regulatory intelligence and international partnerships to improve how quality medicines reach African markets.

Access to medicine does not begin or end at the pharmacy.

Before a healthcare product can reach a patient, manufacturers and distributors must navigate registration requirements, product standards, supply chains, trade rules and relationships across several institutions.

Abdulmumin Abolade Oshodi is working on that less visible side of healthcare.

The commercial lawyer and technology entrepreneur is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of KITAM Science Inc., a Canada-based company developing AI-supported trade intelligence for organizations entering complex international markets.

His work brings together law, technology, commerce and public health—with a particular interest in creating more dependable pathways between African and North American markets.

From Commercial Law to Technology

Oshodi began his professional journey in commercial law.

That background gave him an understanding of the regulations, contracts and institutional requirements that shape international business. It also exposed him to a common problem: promising companies may have valuable products but struggle to enter new markets because they cannot confidently navigate the rules.

Cross-border trade involves more than finding buyers.

Businesses must understand whether a product meets local standards, what documentation is required, which organizations regulate it and how trade agreements affect its movement.

Oshodi transformed that challenge into a technology opportunity.

Making Complex Markets Easier to Understand

KITAM describes itself as a convergent-AI trade-intelligence company.

Its platform is being developed to combine information from law, science, regulation and international trade. The goal is to help businesses make better decisions before entering a new country.

The technology can support questions such as:

  • Is a product prepared for the intended market?
  • Which regulatory standards apply?
  • What documents and partnerships will be needed?
  • Where could commercial or supply-chain difficulties arise?
  • How should a company structure its market-entry strategy?

By organizing this information, KITAM aims to make international expansion more manageable—particularly for smaller companies without large legal and regulatory teams.

In July 2026, KITAM announced a partnership with Vimy Pharmaceuticals and the African Business Coalition for Health to establish a quality-assured pathway for essential medicines entering African markets.

The initiative begins with a pilot focused on diabetes care. KITAM’s role is to map the regulatory, logistics and market requirements surrounding each product, while Vimy provides pharmaceutical supply and ABCHealth supports continental coordination.

The partnership is intended to become more than a conventional export arrangement.

It brings together manufacturers, regulatory intelligence, market preparation and institutional relationships to create a dependable route through which appropriate medicines can reach participating countries.

The long-term vision also includes two-way trade. African markets need reliable access to quality products, but African businesses should also be supported in developing the standards and relationships required to compete internationally.

Connecting African Markets

KITAM’s wider vision extends across several African countries.

The company has announced work intended to support businesses navigating markets in Nigeria, Kenya, Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa and Mauritius.

This regional approach is important because Africa is not one uniform market. Every country has its own institutions, commercial requirements and regulatory environment.

Technology can help businesses understand those differences while also identifying opportunities created by regional cooperation and the African Continental Free Trade Area.

Oshodi’s work presents African trade not simply as a destination for imported goods, but as an ecosystem in which local companies, professionals and innovators can participate more confidently.

A Growing Voice in Health Innovation

Oshodi is increasingly contributing to wider conversations about African healthcare, investment and technology.

He has participated in discussions addressing health financing, local pharmaceutical production, regulatory coordination and public-private partnerships. He was also named among the speakers for the 2026 Africa HealthTech Summit as Chief Executive Officer of KITAM Inc.

During an ABCHealth high-level roundtable, he contributed to conversations about sustainable health security, innovative financing and stronger collaboration among governments, businesses, financial institutions and development partners.

These engagements reflect his growing role as a bridge between commercial expertise and public-health priorities.

Building the Systems Behind Access

A medicine may exist and still fail to reach the people who need it.

A manufacturer may encounter unfamiliar regulations. A distributor may lack dependable market information. Two suitable partners may never find one another. An otherwise valuable product may remain delayed within a complicated system.

KITAM is attempting to address those gaps.

The company remains in an emerging stage, and the long-term impact of its partnerships will depend on successful implementation. Yet its direction is clear: use technology and regulatory knowledge to make trade more informed, transparent and responsive to healthcare needs.

At Africa Spotlights, we celebrate African innovators who recognize that transformation often begins with improving the systems operating behind the scenes.

Abdulmumin Abolade Oshodi represents that kind of leadership. By combining commercial law, artificial intelligence and cross-border partnerships, he is helping build smarter routes through which healthcare products—and African enterprises—can move.
